Stream Etiquette Intro: How To Not Be A Toxic Viewer

Respect and consideration for others goes a long way.

How you present yourself as well as how you treat others is important in any aspect both on and offline. The streaming community is no different.

I've covered several subjects to help new streamers get started, but there are also multiple facets of does and don't when it comes to being a viewer.

Stream etiquette to put it simple is not being that guy/girl on someone's channel.

Not being a 'Mr.Bungle' of the streaming community if you will, and if you don't know what that is in reference to? This video explains.

Short version? Mr. Bungle isn't exactly a pleasant person and thus someone that following the example of can give you a swift timeout or ban in a streamer's chat.

I can say honestly, that I've lost count of how many people have come onto my channel (both in my time on Twitch as well as Mixer before the latter folded) that I had to point to the rules below my stream (even going as far as to make a series of chatbot commands for my mod's to trigger upon me saying a code word, which would display the broken rule in chat as well as the appointed punishment) because their stream etiquette was poor, or non existent in itself.

And even after pointing them to the rules? Some of these individuals only got worse and intentionally continued to break the rules, resulting in aforementioned timeouts and permabans, which me nor my mods have ever personally enjoyed handing out because we want people to get along in my channel and just have a good time.

Some have argued they didn't see the rules, but my perspective is that if you understand and rationalize that what you are doing is with cruel intentions in mind when you come into someone's stream? You of course understand and rationalize right and wrong and thus how to act and not act.

So a lack of seeing rules against trolling, self promotions, etc shouldn't be needed to inform you that its not allowed, namely if you have went to other channels prior and received negative response to your negative actions of a similar nature. There is simply no need for rules to be explained when it comes to common sense and being respectful.

Stream etiquette goes hand in hand with a particular streamer's rules for their channel as well as a streaming site's own terms of service/rules of conduct. While TOS and Rules of Conduct are pretty much static no matter who you are? Rules on a streamer's channel are different based on the streamer though many share some of the same rules in coherence with the site's rules.

This subgroup of my guides for new streamers was created because as much as I hope to help aspiring streamers do their best?

I hope I can teach anyone who simply watches streams how to act their best.

Take these words to heart for whatever site you're watching content creators on, and and if you stream?

Be something streamers after you look up to.

Be it online or offline, its not that hard to simply be a decent human being.
